Want an Easy Button? Align With Your Strengths!

Ten best practices

When I work with clients, one of the most important things we focus on is connecting at your core level to learn who you really are. Your core is your essence, the intangible elements that no one sees. These intangible elements – your core power – are made up of your core values, natural talents, key strengths, beliefs, and passions.

Think about it as the internal operating system that guides all your decisions in

how you choose to live your life. Your core power is not made up of ALL your values, strengths, talents, and interests, only the critical components.

Acting from your core power aligns you with what comes naturally. Being in alignment generates the fuel needed to accomplish your goals, versus draining your energy and undermining your power.

One way you can gain a clearer understanding of your strengths on your own is by taking the StrengthsFinders Strength Test. The Clifton StrengthsFinder measures the presence of 34 talent themes. Talents are naturally occurring patterns of thoughts, feelings or behaviours.

The StrengthFinders Assessment you can take online to find out your top five talent themes.

Here are just five of the 34 signature strengths…

Achiever: People strong in the Achiever theme have a great deal of stamina and work hard. They take great satisfaction from being busy and productive.

Futuristic: People strong in the Futuristic theme are inspired by the future and what could be. They inspire others with their visions of the future.

Harmony: People strong in the Harmony theme look for consensus. They don’t enjoy conflict, rather, they seek areas of agreement.

Maximizer: People strong in the Maximizer theme focus on strengths as a way to stimulate personal and group excellence. They seek to transform something strong into something superb.

Woo: People strong in the Woo theme love the challenge of meeting new people and winning them over. They derive satisfaction from breaking the ice and making a connection with another person.

Knowing your own signature strengths helps you become more aware of your own unique core power and how you can harness that to achieve your goals with less effort and more joy. It’s possible that you aren’t even aware of some of your natural talents because they come so easily to you.

For example, if Woo is one of my signature strengths, then I would strive to seek opportunities to meet and interact with new people in my professional and personal life. Nurturing and exercising my woo talent will actually support me in being a stronger performer,  along with feeling more fulfilled and happier.
